I have some sad news to share. Former WCADP board member Sister Joan Campbell died on Sunday November 4th. Joan was an educator, a prison chaplain, and a long time advocate for abolishing the death penalty. 

This past July Sister Joan attended the Annual Fast & Vigil to Abolish the Death Penalty in front of the Supreme Court in Washington DC. Caritas published a feature about her, and I'd asked for (and received) permission to share it with all of you. I hadn't anticipated I'd be sharing it in this context. 

We are all so happy that she saw the end of the death penalty in Washington last month. The last time I saw her was at the ACLU WA office, celebrating the unanimous WA State Supreme Court decision that ended the death penalty on October 11th. 

There is a vigil for her tonight, November 8th; her funeral is tomorrow, Friday November 9th. Read her obituary and find details about the services here.
