Hi ! In October, Washington's Supreme Court unanimously struck down the state's death penalty, making it the 20th state to do away with capital punishment. The Court also converted the sentences of the state's eight death row inmates to life in prison without release. The abolishment of Washington's death penalty was voted our state's top news story of 2018 by Associated Press staff and member editors!

With the death penalty in Washington State's rearview mirror, the movement to end capital punishment has renewed hope - and many new opportunities. We are watching several states closely for progress in the next year: New Hampshire, Colorado, Utah, Kansas, Louisiana - even our neighbor Oregon!

Even in the wake of death penalty abolition in Washington, WCADP plans to keep our doors open. We have considered the experiences of other states and know we can expect attempts to bring the death penalty back. Continued public education about the problems of the death penalty will make those reinstatement attempts less likely to gain traction, and maintaining our community of abolitionists will allow the coalition to rally support quickly if such action is ever needed.

We have a new office!  University Christian Church in the University District of Seattle, where WCADP has had office space since 2011, has been sold and will likely be demolished and redeveloped. In late September, we moved our office to St. Paul's United Church of Christ in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. We are so grateful that we found a welcoming space to house us!  Our new mailing address is: WCADP  6512 12th Ave NW  Seattle, WA  98117

WCADP is primarily supported by donations from our membership. A gift of any amount makes you a member for a year. Will you consider a gift of $25, $50, $100, or more to keep our doors open as we move from pursuing abolition to defending abolition?
