Doors open at 9:30 am - join us for coffee & donuts, fresh fruit & juice, and time to catch up with each other and make new connections.
At 10:00 we'll spend about 20 minutes hearing about WCADP activities this past year and a quick recap of abolition efforts in Washington & nationally. We will also vote on the board of directors slate for the upcoming year (all members may vote - you are a member if you have made a donation of any amount in the prior calendar year).
We have 2 guest speakers this year - Senator Jamie Pedersen and King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.
Senator Jamie Pedersen is a long-time supporter of death penalty abolition, and in his new role this past legislative session as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee showed great leadership on SB 6052, the bill to abolish the death penalty, throughout the session.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg came out publicly against the death penalty for the first time in a January opinion piece in the Seattle Times, stating: "It is my duty to report that the death penalty law in our state is broken and cannot be fixed." He also gave compelling testimony in front of both the Senate Law & Justice Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.
We'll take the remaining time to talk together as a group about what we can do in the upcoming year - a time to reflect on the input of the speakers and get input from the broader coalition to the WCADP board - as we head into a new WCADP year.
